The 15″ steel wheels wear polished trim rings and chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with 165-series BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial whitewall tires. A full-size spare is housed in the front trunk. The rear fenders were removed and reinforcements were welded in to accommodate the rear subframe, which was sourced from a 1971 Volkswagen Squareback and features independent suspension. Bilstein dampers were fitted during the refurbishment, and the ball joints, rear axle bearings, and rear axle seals were replaced. Additional work included rebuilding the front wheel cylinders, installing a dual circuit brake master cylinder, and replacing the rear wheel cylinders, front and rear brake shoes, and brake lines.
