The engine was initially a four-cylinder displacing 1,200 cc which in 1967 models was increased to 1,300 cc. In 1974, the stroke of the four-cylinder powerplant was increased creating 1,500 cc. A four-speed manual transmission was used throughout the production run, with modifications and refinements along the way to help driveability.
